Michele Bianchi
Michele Bianchi is a Bainbridge Island artist who creates one-of-a-kind jewelry using a combination of silversmithing, lapidary, silver metal clay, Keum-boo and hand-knotting techniques. She cuts, shapes and polishes stones through traditional lapidary methods and is always looking to learn new techniques and combine them in original designs.
Artist statement
My work is rooted in a love of nature, where I find endless inspiration in patterns, colors and form. I’m drawn to the slow process of making jewelry by hand, whether I’m pressing texture into silver, shaping a stone from a rough slab, carving into silver metal clay or knotting pearls one at a time. I like allowing the materials and process to influence the original design I had in mind so each piece develops its own character and captures the joy I felt making it.
Summary
Michele Bianchi learned silversmithing 4 years ago by taking classes at BARN on Bainbridge Island, and has since then learned many new skills and techniques to add to her quiver. She's currently collecting as many gems and pearls as she can to create a new line of one-of-a-kind artisan pieces, and is teaching herself (patience in) how to engrave metal. She also works on commission and loves making her clients ideas come to life. Michele is currently a volunteer studio monitor in the woodworking and jewelry workshops at BARN and has select pieces in the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art gift shop.
We’re excited to welcome Michele to our Premier Artists of Bainbridge Island Art.
