Why Philanthropy and Art Matter

Bainbridge High School Garden Club fundraiser at The Cove Art Market 2026

Bainbridge Island Art was proud to host the Bainbridge High School (BHS) Garden Club’s Strawberry Plant Fundraiser at the Cove Art Market on May 9, 2026. The event was a simple, joyful moment of connection—where local students, community members, and artists came together.

A partnership rooted in philanthropy

Supporting local youth and school programs is central to Bainbridge Island Art’s mission of connecting art and community. When we heard through the BI Flashdrive Community that the BHS Garden Club wanted to raise funds by selling strawberry plants, we had the perfect spot for them at the Cove Art Market; it was a natural fit. The market’s welcoming space and regular foot traffic provided an ideal venue to showcase the students’ work at growing strawberry starts, raise funds for garden projects, and encourage community members to bring an island treasure, Marshall Strawberries, into their gardens.

Event highlights

  • Student-led table: Garden Club members staffed the table, along with their sponsor, Ms. Carson, answering questions about plant care, sharing gardening tips, and talking about the club’s plans for school community gardens. Their enthusiasm and knowledge made the fundraiser informative, as well as friendly.

  • Healthy turnout: Market visitors responded warmly, purchasing strawberry plants and offering support. Conversations ranged from gardening techniques to the benefits of school gardens for hands-on learning. The fundraiser raised over $350!

  • Community conversations: The fundraiser created opportunities for neighbors and artists to connect with students in relaxed, meaningful ways—an important part of strengthening community ties.

  • Philanthropic impact: Proceeds will be used for gardening supplies, soil amendments, and projects that expand the Garden Club’s capacity to engage more students and improve their campus garden spaces.

Why it mattered

This event exemplified how small, focused initiatives can have a large impact. For the Garden Club, funds mean better resources and opportunities for experiential education—teaching biology, ecology, responsibility, and teamwork. For Bainbridge Island Art, hosting the fundraiser aligned with our commitment to philanthropy: providing a platform for youth-led initiatives and making Bainbridge Island Art events a place where art, education, and community service intersect.

Looking ahead

We’re grateful to the students, families, market visitors, and volunteers who made the Strawberry Plant Fundraiser a success. Bainbridge Island Art looks forward to continuing partnerships with local schools and organizations that strengthen community through creative, philanthropic collaboration. If you’re inspired to start a similar project, consider connecting with local markets or arts organizations—small events like this one create lasting benefits for students and the neighborhoods they serve.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Garden Club on May 9. Together we planted more than strawberry starts—we helped grow community.
